Kia ora, welcome to Room 3 for 2013, I hope you all had a good holiday; it’s certainly been a great summer. I would like to welcome the new students to my class especially Grace, Liliana and Angeline who are new to our school. Everyone has settled in well, and the children are slowly learning new routines and ways of doing things.
Focus for Term 1
We will be focusing on a variety of topics this term such as; ‘Me and my whanau’, Sea week, Native Flora and Fauna – Broken Hills Camp, Healthy Eating. The overall theme is a about caring for ourselves and protecting our environment. If you have any good ideas, suggestions or can contribute materials towards these areas please feel free to see me.
We will be going on an overnight camp out at the Broken Hills camp ground in Week 6 of our term - Thursday 14th and Friday 15th March.
Maths
We will be focusing on Numeracy everyday throughout this term, starting with number recognition, the basic facts, and addition/subtraction. We will also be learning to tell the time, collect information for graphs, measuring weight and volume.
Literacy
Reading and Writing
This term we will be focusing on reading for information and writing factual reports, as well as covering a range of reading skills and writing styles.
The students read daily and are developing good comprehension skills. I will be continuing to focus on accurate spelling, grammar activities, proof reading, and editing.
